Default How often should you update your sitemap?

How often should you update your sitemap?

I mean I add new content to my site quite a bit, and updating my sitemap each time I add new content would be a silly idea. I usually do it once a month, but i'm wondering if I should do it more/less often?

Or is there some way to get an auto-updating sitemap (even if it's paid software)?

Thanks,
TS

I'm using a WordPress plugin and everytime a content is updated the sitemap is also automatically updated. Note that this is the default settings, so I assume an update ASAP is the most beneficial.

There is an option for change frequency please do set it to one in sitemap.xml and also there is a provision for the priority . You can set that based on the most important page . Hope this helps you out . Cheers buddy

Yeah, thats nothing to do with what I was asking.

I mean I add new pages of content to my site a lot, and I have to update my sitemap every so often to include them.

I'm just wondering if I should do it more often (would it make a difference?) or if there is an automated thing to do it.

That WP plugin would be good if I were a blogger and used WP, but i'm not. It'd be nice to know the name of it though , incase I ever do anything with WP.

The Google XML Sitemaps is the plugin that I'm using to auto update my sitemap anytime I change something at my blogs. It's an extremely popular plugin and is usually in a blogger's essential plugins list.

A quick search on Google for "automatic sitemap update" gives me some results, but I can't say anything for them because I've never used them before.

I also use the Google XML Sitemap plugin for my wordpress blog.

It updates every time I add a post or a page.
I would recommend it for wordpress blogs.

So does anyone know any tool for normal websites? Even if it costs a bit of money, I don't mind.

It's a little vBulletin shortening bug.
Anyways here's the link. Just found it via the shortened link above:
LiveThunder WebMaster Tools | Tools Needed For Every Webmaster

Under "Webmaster Tools", there is "SiteMap Generator".

Oh right, cheers I got it there

I was using one before but it was limited to 500 links. It was better than this one IMO, and it's only $20 to get the full version (unlimited links+other features), might do that.
