Default Anchor Text links is becoming less important

Anchor Text links is becoming less important. In older days the rankings were based very heavily on anchor text rather than on-site optimisation .There are two types of SERP k One rank due to the Trustworthiness of the incoming links and others that rank because they have thousands of paid links with same keywords in the anchor text.Nobody really naturally links to a commercial sites. The links are all mostly made reciprocal or just paid links.I have seen some websites that previously ranked on the top in SERRP have dropped down by a number of places. It is said that the google algorithm is changing . See blogstorm.co.uk for more details .

Quite right. I think this was done to prevent bad techniques like Google Bombing (like when a few blogs linked to President Bush's website with the anchor text "miserable failure" and managed to rank him #1 for it).

I believe that the content surrounding the links is now playing an important factor.

It's because they are the bosses. They can rank their own sites high if they like

Google searches are a bit lesser in quality than they were a few years back IMO. But that's how it works, more information, more crap sites, the harder for Google to find the good ones. Also with all this SEO stuff sometimes the worse "contented" but better SEOd pages come up first which is really a bad thing. But Google is not stupid, they are constantly changing the algorythm I believe they will come out with something for this situation also.

Exactly. Quality, unique content is no more king. Regardless of how amazing your content or your website is, if the guy beside you can SEO darn well, his crap will be higher and more popular than yours. Pretty sad, but it'll keep on happening.

Well the traffic will not last longer on crappy content oriented sites, so content is still the king.

Yes but it will be MUCH harder to gain visitors with this very high SEO competition!

Even in your signature you have anchored texts. Their importance may have decreased in ranking, but they're good at attracting targeted traffic to a site.
