What's the difference between Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

SEM is a kind of internet marketing that seeks to promote websites by increasing their visibility in search engine results pages (SERPs). SEM methods contain search engine optimization (SEO), paid placement, contextual advertising, digital asset optimization and paid inclusion.

SEM is about using search engines and Directories to send targeted traffic to web sites. By targeted traffic, means driving likely customers to website. SEM is really a blend of two core techniques SEO and Paid Search related.
