Email seems to be a good way to promote a site, and also to make an old forum active again.

I was a member on a gaming forum, and it was dying out. After a mass PM was sent to all 2000 members or so, a huge burst of forum posts came flying in over the next few days, and the forum was back up and happy again with everyone posting their latest game updates and developments in all the appropriate sub forums.

Sadly the forum died again, and now it is used by spammers as an advertising resource to gather backlinks. I had over 4000 forum posts there which sucked, but the point is, the emails helped.

Does this help when promoting a new website? Where would a list be gathered? Would you have to gather subscribers and then email them?

Feedburner shows the emails which are used to subscribe to your RSS Feed. When you have a lot, you could gather them all and send emails out weekly as a newsletter, or offer a normal newsletter signup on the site.

And if the website is dying, then you can email everyone, but perhaps they will unsubscribe before you can do it.

for the forums it is an easy way but most people are registering with the email they dont use daily.and theing this type helps 25%of marketing
I dont think feed burner will help much its easy to unsubscribe

If you have a targeted list of customers on your list it can make you agood amount of money in no time just for sending out one e-mail.

Remember that you need to offer only quality things.

Yeh, and offering a quality newsletter, and the odd free download here and there from the website should keep people coming back right?

For forums mass emailing is a great way to promote!! the conversion ratio is actually quite high. There people selling forum databases just for the email ID they have many of which are active.

Email marketing is a really good method to kick start a promotion campaign. But the difference between annoying and promoting is very thin and you ought to be very careful

Thanks for the link. Didnt realise it had been covered already.

I had a read through that, but I am still curious about list gathering.

Well that is the hardest part,to get thousand subscribers on your list but a good start would be to offer something valuable for free.People just love free stuff.

People love free stuff when its comparable to the ones which you have to pay for.People do value quality.

So true. People love free stuff that they don't even need. They see an oppurtunity to get a free item, and they take it. Like free samples of food and drink in supermarkets and so on.
