Do personal blogs really fail that badly?

Default Do personal blogs really fail that badly?
I know that personal blogs don't do quite well compared to niche specific blogs. However, if you look at some of the female bloggers on Enkay's list of female bloggers, many of them actually run a successful personal blog which got me thinking otherwise.

Do any of you run a personal blog that you talk about random stuff and people still comment?

You forgetting shoemoney & johnchow are personal blogs. Many people forget this and think that they must talk about making money.

They arn't really...they are more "how to make money online" blogs with a personal touch.

Personal blogs arn't usually made to get a good amount of traffic and make money, most of the time it's just somewhere for someone to have a sort of online journal that some of their friends might read.
I know a few people (who have no idea about online marketing, etc) that own online blogs, update them pretty often and people do comment (although it's mostly the same people, their friends who read it).

I read one "personal blog" quite a bit...just because it's really funny (even though I don't really know the person).

I know that the two are personal blogs and I know quite a few successful online people who run successful "personal" blogs. However, looking at it from the outside, it obviuosly is a website where you talk about making money. When half your posts are about that, you really can't say that it is a general blog where you talk about a whole lot of stuff.

I'm actually talking about a blog like this:
Karen Cheng’s Snippets of Life

Yeah Karen says that she's blogging about this and that, but if you actually read some of her posts, most of them are actually quite random, general, and are really snippets of her life.

It's so damn funny, I can't get enough. Although she doesn't update it that often TBH.

You have to understand that shoemoney life is about business and johnchow life is about making money online and food. My blog is personal. All I post about is Money, SEO, Blogging, Site Flipping, Traffic, Tricks & Tips.

It all depends on what you are into. If a person life is all about football and he or she makes a personal blog is going to be about football.

No, not at all.

A personal blog to me would be a blog with stories about someones life, or a kind of journal type thing. For example, my mates blog, it's all about what he's doing in his life at that moment in time, mostly gaming and being a lazy arse but it's still about his life. Thats what i'd consider a personal blog.

Not just talking about what interests you on your blog like your saying.
