How to extract date part?

I am using datetimepicker to accept date from the user , it is showing time with date ,how can i extract date part from it?

I am using following index but it is not at all working

Datetimepicker1.customformat =mm/dd/yy
SqlDataAdapater1.select command.parameters("@param1")value=Datetimepicker1 .value

Can anybody help me to extract date from datetimepicker.
