Default Signup Commission Or % For Life?

When it comes down to affiliate marketing a lot of programs offer you to pick between $ per signup or % for life. Often people pick $ per signup.

($ per signup)
Picking this will provide you with quick cash flow for the short term. But think of the future, you got 10 signups and 5 of them keep using the site. That's a lot of money you giving away to the site.

(% for life)
Many webmasters/affiliate marketers don't think about this one. Only those who are looking for a long term income. Picking this will take some time to see the money start building up.

Lately I been trying to build passive income so I found a affiliate program that works for me and will bring in income for life once I am done doing my promotions for it.

Which one do you prefer?

It'd depend how I market it.

The % for life if I know that people will stick with it for a long time and/or I can get a lot of referals.
The lump sum if I know the people are not likely to stick around that long and/or can't get that many referals.

You got a good point. Their are some programs I couldn't get a lot of referrals for so I went with the $ per signup. Lately I been thinking about the hard times everybody is going through and made up my mind that I would build passive income. That way if these times happen again I will still be making big money.

Well if you are in the casino, poker, roulette niche definitely chose the lifetime % off all their losses.

It really depends on the niche, but if you think that people will use that service a lot then also pick the lifetime %.

$ per signup is just a way to get fast cash.

I prefer the good old per signup basis.
It takes time to create a good conversion rate from clicks to sales, but once you get it right, and optimize correctly, you start to see a good amount of sales.

Well,IMO that is a technique for greedy or out off cash people.

If you can just wait a bit you will for sure see higher amounts of money.

Its not greedy. Your signing up to an Affiliate Program to ensure you can get as many customers as possible to create a good revenue. Surely optimization is simply helping your chances of getting a conversion and a successful sale.

Its a good thing for both myself and also the affiliate program as they are getting new customers.

I agree with you but I think that the lifetime % is far better than the signup commission.Just my opinion.

I can see you don't think long term. Short term is your thing and I respect that.

But look at it this way. Affiliate program paying 50% on sale or 25% for life on a $100 product.

You make 10 sales. So you made $500

I make 10 sales. So I made $250 and the next month only 5 paid again. So I made another $125 and the next month $125 again and so on.

In the end I make more for thinking long term. (Just keep that in mind)

Well it really depends a lot if they are going to use that product again. You need to test it to see which way is better.

You can usually tell with some products. Like hosting is usually a good one, because people don't like having to change hosts, it's just annoying to say the least, so more people are likely to renew.

Well every month is payout, and if you can achieve better monthly results with lifetime commissions than with the signup fee it is way better because you will receive money every time that customer renews.

Ts,you said that people will often renew hosting plans but do you know of any host that has lifetime commission, not the common signup fee.

This is a good point. I have not come accross such a service as of yet. I think Bluehost is probably the best way to go, going by their conversion rate, the good service, and the high payout per signup. ($69).

Dreamhost does (not sure but you might have to be using their services to be an affiliate though).
Think Bluehost might
There are bound to be more.

Think crucialwebhost used to do one, I remember signing up for it (because I kind of knew one of the guys who owned the company), just can't find anything about it now, probably got discontinued.

I am thinking long term. With a lot of traffic on a pretty old site, there will be a higher conversion rate because people trust the site, and the services which are being promoted more.

Well I saw the lifetime % that dreamhost offers(10%) but I would rather chose the one time payment because it is better IMO.

I don't know...I mean I signed up under a mate of mine who was using the %age method. They must have made quite a bit from me so far, although probably n
