Why do sites disappear from SERPs?
I’ve always wondered this also. It’s not the sandbox first of all.
I’ve looked at numerous of sites that dropped off the SERPs for no reason at all. Some of the terms were competitive and some were not. There was really no relation between them and I just can’t figure out why this would be happening. Of course there are numerous theories on what’s going on here but I’m not going to link to them because I think they are all BS penalty theories and don’t want to give them any more attention.
But here’s 2 examples of sites I have that have been missing in action for the last month.
1. http://www.lotro.us/
Now the main keyword is obvious lotro that I was going for here. The site ranked extremely well on the first page for a long time. Then “for the main keyword only” it was gone. Now the site still ranks and gets traffic from other terms just not that one. Keep in mind that this keyword is not competitive at all.
2. http://www.statiksound.com/
This one upset me a little more. The two main phrases I was going after is “song lyrics” and “music lyrics”. Both were ranking extremely well on the 1st and 2nd page of the results. The for no reason it was gone. Was about the same time as the first site. Can’t tell for sure because I don’t check it frequently. Now these 2 keywords are very competitive. The site still ranks and pulls in traffic for tons of other keywords just not the main ones.
Now I’ve had this happen before with other sites and it always seems to be an algo change. The sites will drop off and come back a month or two later. I’m almost positive that’s what’s happening here. But when something happens likes this it always creates a buzz and new rumors and theories are formed. Just wish some people can be patient and if they did nothing wrong then believe your site will come back in the SERPs, because it will.
